A Scientometric Review of Residential Segregation Research: A CiteSpace-Based Visualization

Residential segregation (RS) is a global phenomenon that has become an enduring and important topic in international academic research. In this review, using RS as the search term, 2520 articles from period 1928–2022 were retrieved Scopus database visually analyzed CiteSpace software. The results revealed following: (1) United States its institutions have made outstanding contributions to research, while various scholars (e.g., Johnston, Massey, Forrest, Poulsen, Iceland) laid foundation for (2) Mainstream research originates three fields—psychology, education, social sciences—while trend of multidisciplinary integration constantly increasing. (3) hotspots include racial difference, sociospatial behavior, income inequality, mixed communities, guest worker minorities, typical district segregation, occupational health inequalities, metropolitan ghetto, migrant–native differential mobility. Furthermore, (4) gentrification, spatial analysis, school disparity, immigrant, COVID-19 new themes directions Future should pay more attention impact multi-spatial scale changes on well propose theoretical explanations rooted local contexts by integrating knowledge.
